The Best Farmer's Markets in Atlanta

It’s no surprise that farmers markets flourish in the city of Atlanta. After all, Georgia is a major farm state.

It’s no surprise that farmers markets flourish in the city of Atlanta. After all, Georgia is a major farm state. We are known for our peanuts, but did you know that 34% of the land in Georgia is deemed agricultural? We are also known for our peaches, pecans, blueberries, watermelon and onions.  Vidalia anyone?

At Arden’s Garden, we are committed to bringing plant-based food to our community and as a result, we are equally committed to supporting our local farmer’s markets. Here's a roundup of a few of our favorites.

1. Oyun Botanical Gardens

Oyun Botanical Gardens Atlanta

At the top of our list is Oyun Botanical Gardens in East Point, Georgia, a space with a special place in our hearts. When the garden faced closure, our CEO Leslie Zinn came together with Queen Yenn - Yennenga Adanya to help save the farm from land developers. Today, it plays a key part in serving the community of East Point with healthy and sustainable foods.

Oyun Botanical Gardens features a variety of native plants, seasonal flowers, and small-scale farming plots. Visitors can explore walking trails, attend workshops on sustainable gardening, or enjoy community events like farmers' markets and wellness fairs. The farmers' market runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering a range of fresh produce, handcrafted goods, and locally sourced items. With its peaceful ambiance and focus on education, the gardens offer a unique space to connect with nature and embrace healthy living.

2. Piedmont Park Green Market

Next on our list is Piedmont Park Green Market because it is literally steps away from our original Arden's Garden store on Monroe Drive. We love and support Piedmont Park and the Piedmont Park Conservancy, the non-profit that keeps it beautiful. Last year, we were a sponsor for the Party for Piedmont Park.

Known as the “Green Market”, it hosts over 40 Georgia growers and artisans each week. There are weekly chef demos and they even have an entire educational series on canning. Early visitors can get first dibs at the delish food stands for breakfast while choosing their favorite artisan goodies like handmade soaps and lotions. You’ll also find vendors with condiments, fresh flowers, veggies, cheeses, and other yummies.

The market seamlessly integrates into the beauty envisioned by Frederic Law Olmsted when he conceived of Piedmont Park.

Where: 1071 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309

3. Freedom Farmers Market in honor of our Georgia hero, Jimmy Carter

Freedom Farmers Market Atlanta

Freedom Farmers Market started with a small group of Georgia farmers to bring sustainably grown foods to Atlanta neighborhoods. Today, the Freedom Farmers Market takes place year-round every Saturday at the Carter Center from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. You’ll find a plethora of farm-fresh vegetables, cheeses, meats, and home-baked treats. Be sure to arrive early during the peach season—the locally grown peaches are a favorite and sell out quickly.

Stop by, grab a rich, flavorful coffee from 1000 Faces Coffee, and enjoy the kind of live local music that our President Jimmy Carter loved. And if you’ve never been to a Presidential Library, you are in for a treat. The Carter Center Library, right next door to the Farmer’s Market is open Saturdays from 11 am to 6 pm.

Where: 453 John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30307

4. Emory Farmers Market

The Emory Farmers Market is held every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the Emory University campus. Sustainability is the name of the game here as you’ll find fresh, locally sourced produce and handcrafted goods from a variety of farms, restaurants, and small-scale artisanal businesses.

Every once in a while, Emory Farmers Market will host themed markets to celebrate seasonal produce or on-campus events. Be sure to stop by their Tomato Festival and Peach Festival when they’re going on.

Where: 1040 Grant St SE, Atlanta, GA 30315

5. Grant Park Farmers Market

The Grant Park Farmers Market, located in Atlanta's historic Grant Park neighborhood, is well-known within the city. It has been voted "Best Farmers Market" by both Creative Loafing and Atlanta Magazine. If you’re a major foodie, this is the place to be. Imagine looking for fresh farm eggs and running into James Beard award winners like Hugh Acheson, Kevin Gillespie, Steven Satterfield, or Virginia Willis. Indeed, some of Atlanta’s top chefs offer free cooking demonstrations at the Grant Park Farmer’s Market.

While not celebrity chef spotting, we encourage you to indulge in a decadent treat.  Revolution Donuts has a stand where you can pick up one of our favorites, The Sticky Toffee Date cake, which is gluten- and dairy-free!

Where: 569 Asbury Cir, Atlanta, GA 30322

6. Sandy Springs Farmers Market

The Sandy Springs Farmers Market, located in the heart of Sandy Springs, just North of Atlanta proper, is seasonal and won’t open again until April. But when it is open, it stays open rain or shine. With 40-50 vendors every Saturday morning from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, the market offers ample parking and outdoor seating where visitors can enjoy different seasonal fruits, vegetables, and freshly baked goods from local vendors,  Bonus points, Sandy Springs Farmers market is literally a hop, skip and a jump away from our Arden’s Garden’s Sandy Springs store, so you can start or end your visit with one of our smoothies!  Did we mention they have a rolling list of live entertainment every weekend? If you’re in the north Atlanta area, put this farmers market on your bucket list.

7. Peachtree Road Farmers Market

Peachtree Road Farmers Market located at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead, is Atlanta's largest producer-only market. With more than 17 years of serving local goodness to Atlantan neighborhoods, this is not just a place for you to buy your seasonal veggies. It’s a place where you can connect with producers and learn more about the goods you’re buying (and maybe even make a friend along the way).

Every Saturday from 9:00 AM, local farmers and artisans will showcase fresh produce, pasture-raised meats, and handmade goods. Like the other farmers markets, there’s an abundance of new things you can find here, whether it’s a live band, some fresh-made goodies, or locally grown vegetables only found in the state of Georgia. There’s no shortage of excitement at Peachtree Road Farmers Market.
